The 2009 District 39W photo contest is underway!  The District 39W website, blog, and Facebook need some great photos, so dust off your camera, charge the batteries, point, and shoot! 

Rules

• Photos must be of a Lions service project, fundraiser, or event. 
• The first contest period can include photos taken between July 1, 2009, and December 31, 2009.  The deadline for entry is December 31, 2009, at 12:00 pm.
• The second contest period can include photos taken between January 1, 2010, and March 31, 2010, and the third contest period will be from April 1, 2010 and June 30, 2010.
• Winning photographs will be published on the front page of the Lions 39W website for the following quarter.
• A grand prize winner will be chosen from the quarterly winners.   Prize to be announced.
• Photos must be taken by a Lion or a Leo.
• Each person may submit multiple photos at different times.
• Photos should include the photographer's name, phone number, club name, and email address.  A description of the event and the date of the event must also be included. 
• Digital entries may be emailed to the Webmaster at lionkathyd@gmail.com.  If a print or disk with images is submitted, it may be mailed to Kathy Donahue, % Star Lions, PO Box 144, Star, ID 83669.  Entries must be postmarked by the due date.

Tips for Better Photos

Move in closer to your subject.

Instead of centering your subject, move it to the side. 

When taking photos of children or pets, get down on their level.

Pay attention to the background. 

Hold the camera level.

Pay attention to lighting.  Sometimes turning the camera's flash on outside or off inside will provide the correct lighting.

Frame your shot.  Use elements in the background or foreground to draw attention to the subject.
